Tell me where you struggle, and I can tell you where God is working- where you can experience God. God is a speaking God, but sometimes my ears are stuffed-shut with my own noise.
Jesus tells the woman at the well in John 4:24 God is spirit, and those that worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. Many times in my walk with God I complain that I’m stuck in the world of black-n-white words. My heart is seeking transformational relational wisdom, and I am blocked in the intellectual, informational, head knowledge world. So I complain. The reason for my complaint is that at the time the Scripture would begin to open to me, I’ve already left my devotional time and moved on to the next ‘thing.’ My ability to hear and change is hampered by my lack of attention and patience.
Ironically, teaching Freya has made me more aware of what it means to be disconnected from the source of security and love. In her training, Freya is being taught to move on command in a circle around me. The order of my non-verbal instructions are:
- backup
- hoe
- open the gate (lift my shoulder and her lead rope, point with my belly button in the direction I want her to move)
- put pressure on the opposite shoulder AND with good training, she moves out in the direction I am asking. The result should be a smooth walk 360 degrees in the intended direction.
- disengage the hip and she turns into me
- remove all pressure, relax and praise
Except when it doesn’t go as planned. When she doesn’t understand and is stuck in the world of disconnectedness. Then she flails about at the end of the line in a struggle to determine what is being asked of her.
It’s not lost on me that this is a perfect mirror of my struggle to relax into intimacy with Christ Jesus. He’s clearly communicating love to me, and I am busy trying to figure out if I should go left or right. I’m worried about the what and He’s saying, my child, go with me.
Disconnection. It’s a problem. Watch the progression of videos to see Katy Pistole working Freya through the process of learning to trust.
