Our herd of horses are favorites of guests and staffers alike. We’re grateful for these magnificent animals and the way God has designed them to bring glory to Him as He always does through His creation.
Our horses are involved in many of our programs. Be sure to experience our horses for yourself next time you visit White Sulphur Springs!
- Parent-Youth Adventure Weekends are a time for a parent and child to get away from regular life and have fun connecting through games, high adventure, campfires, worship, and devotions. We’re excited to incorporate our horses into Horse Adventure Weekends! Packed with extended trail rides, sessions on horsemanship skills, time in the Word, and meals around a campfire, this weekend is sure to be one you won’t forget.
- Horsemanship Day Camp takes place on Sunday and Monday afternoon during and is a great opportunity for kids (ages 8+) attending our Summer R&R program to learn more about horses. Our Wranglers teach aspiring equestrians basic horse anatomy, the essentials of riding equipment, techniques for tacking and grooming a horse, walking and trotting instructions for beginners, and then they’ll all hit the trails to gain real-world experience! Daily devotionals throughout the experience will focus on the lessons we can learn from one of God’s most majestic creatures. Up to 10 slots are available at each Horsemanship Day Camp due to the number of horses in our herd. This event will take place during weeks #2, #3, #4, #6, #7 and #8 of our Summer R&R 2024 program, so be sure to select the Horsemanship Day Camp option for your child when you register. There is an additional fee of $135 for a child to attend this program, and additional children from the same family are charged $100/child.

Meet the horses
New! Freya the Draft 2 year old
Freya came to us when she was 8 months old. She is currently being trained to become a ridable horse after she reaches the age of 2. She is a typical yearling- she likes to run around and play games. She is curious and kind and very soft in her presence. And she’s big! Our big baby.

The Haflingers -Misty and Sash
Misty:
The daughter of the newest dynamic duo, Misty is energetic and always looking for snacks! Initially trained for giving carriage rides, she is in cross training for trail rides. She is currently a wrangler mount, but is working towards taking guest riders. Misty was donated with Sash in late 2021, and is always eager to go – as long as mom is near! When you go to the field to see them, Misty’s mane is on the right side, and she has a star (a white spot) on her forehead.
Birthday: 2008
Breed: Haflinger
Color: Chestnut
Best Friend: Sash (her dam)
Sash:
Mom in this dynamic duo, Sash is a dependable, treat seeking lady. After being donated to the Springs in late 2021, she has quickly adapted and is taking guests on trail rides, along with being conditioned to give guests carriage rides during the coming months. When you go to see Sash – her mane falls to the left and she has a large white line down her face (a blaze). Otherwise she and Misty are hard to distinguish!
Birthday: 2005
Breed: Haflinger
Color: Chestnut
Best Friend: Misty (her daughter)

Apache is a tri-color big boy, standing 15.2 hands. Handsome gelding, he has the ability and gentleness to take anybody for a ride. He is full of life, has a big personality and great disposition. Come ride him and see God’s nature on one of our tallest horses.

Charlie
Meet Charlie! One of the prizes of our equine family, this little guy sees the world a little differently than his big pasture-mates. Standing at only 13 hands high, Charlie is our lovable pony; but don’t let his size fool you—he has the heart of a horse and a BIG personality to match.
Birthday: 2006
Breed: Welsh Pony
Color: Bay
Best friend: Philip
Juliet
Say hello to Juliet (AKA “Jules”). She loves nothing more than forever staying by the side of her handsome stud, Romeo, and can be found wherever he is…with the exception of mealtimes of course. Despite her loyalties to Romeo, she is a devout follower to whoever carries the bucket of grain, as ultimately her moody-mini-heart is wherever the food is.
Birthday: 2010
Breed: Miniature horse
Color: Black and White
Soulmate: Romeo
Philip
Meet Philip! Another one of our herd members, Philip is one mighty steed. With his puffy mane and muscular build, it’s easy to picture him as a full-fledged medieval horse, riding into the sunset with an honorable knight atop his back. He is brave, noble, and caring. Come meet Philip this summer at our Horsemanship Day Camp—we know he’ll win your hearts!
Birthday: 2006
Breed: Haflinger
Color: Flaxen chestnut
Best friend: Charlie
Rio
Don’t get this blue-eyed boy confused with Tasso! His partial blue eyes distinguish him and led to his name, Spanish for “river”. Shy and reserved, Rio is getting used to life here at the Springs, enjoying the scenery, grass and life with Sheriff.
Birthday: 2008
Breed: Quarter Horse
Color: Paint
Best friend: Sheriff
Romeo
O Romeo, Romeo…this stunning gelding never fails to capture the hearts of all who meet him. With his luxurious mane, raven coat, and crystal blue eyes, Romeo is as breathtaking and princely as they come; and although it shames the other geldings to admit, Romeo is the alpha male of ALL horses here at the Springs! If he has the chance to escape “The Shire,” you can be sure the first couple of places he’ll journey is the pastures of the Bachelors and the Aristocrats.
Birthday: 2010
Breed: Miniature horse
Color: Black
Soulmate: Juliet
Rory
With his small face, large muscles, and gentle eyes, this handsome guy is sure to catch hearts. While his name means Red King, Rory doesn’t lord it over anyone, and instead tries to please all he is around. He has made friends with almost everyone and can be seen spending time with all ranks, from the lowest to highest.
Birthday: March 30, 2008
Breed: Quarter Horse
Color: Sorrel
Best friend: Sheriff
Sea Star
Owned by one of our former staff members since she was nine years old and Sea Star was two months old, Sea Star was originally born in a wild herd that roams Assateague Island. Born to parents Surfer Dude and Elusive Star, Sea Star’s inner wild pony pops out every now and then when he gets to run in a new pasture. While occasionally pining for old times of only staying in the pasture, he enjoys getting to be with his friends on ride days out on the trail.
Birthday: 2009
Breed: Chincoteague
Color: Chestnut
Best friend: Zaketa
Sheriff
Although he is new in town, Sheriff has made his presence known. Standing over 16 hands, he is taller than everyone but Koa. Calm and observant, this Tennessee Walker has made fast friends with Zaketa and Rio. He is cool and collected out on the trail and loves to be in the woods.
Birthday: 2002

Tasso
Tasso (pronounced Tah-so) is a strikingly beautiful white and sorrel Quarter horse paint that thinks he is your new best friend. He is very relational (big soft eyes), good-natured, and absolutely loves attention. Standing 15 hands and going on 13 years old, he will be a beauty we can look at and ride for a long time.
Birthday: 2007
Breed: Quarter horse

Zaketa
Zaketa is about as extroverted as they come. He LOVES people and has the funniest personality. Full of energy and a whole lot of spunk, this guy is the comedian of the bunch and always finds a way to make us laugh.

Zooka
If you were to walk into the bachelor’s pasture, Zooka would be one of the first to greet you. He’s friendly, kind, and incredibly handsome. His favorite past-time activity is running through the high fields whenever we give him the chance; he’s definitely a free spirit—and a lovable one at that!
