Winter Staff is an opportunity for volunteers ages 18+ to serve for up to 2.5 weeks at White Sulphur Springs during the Winter Retreat Season. This service period is a missionary calling where servants of Jesus Christ set aside time during the Christmas season to give themselves in His service and minister in His name to the military community. Winter Staffers augment the permanent camp staff and receive room and board as compensation.
The staff application for Winter Retreats 2024 is closed.
While we can’t guarantee all Winter Staffers a spot on their preferred team, applicants may rank the Facilities, Guest Services, Teacher, Office, and/or Kitchen teams based on personal interest when completing their application. Learn more about each team, and view our Winter Staff Guidelines below.
Facilities
Guests wouldn’t be able to make memories at Winter Retreats if our trusty Facilities Winter Staffers weren’t here to keep roads drivable and facilities functional! Join the Facilities team to handle everything from ice and snow removal to maintenance repairs to woodcutting.
Guest Services
Work behind the scenes to keep our hotels in guest-ready condition! Winter Staffers on Guest Services handle housekeeping and support free time activities like Challenge Course activities and candy-making.
Teachers
While adults enjoy speaker sessions in the Pettijohn Room, kids have a blast during children’s program throughout the basement (and outside if classes are brave enough for the cold!). Teachers get to play games, make memories, and use WSS-provided curriculum to build kids up in their faith.
Office
Prepare nametags and guest packets, welcome guests to Winter Retreat during check-in, answer questions, take phone calls, process payments, and repeat! Office Winter Staffers play a key role in ensuring guests feel at home throughout their stay.
Kitchen
Holiday feasts don’t prepare themselves! Ensure our guests stay well-fed throughout Winter Retreats by helping our year-round kitchen staff as needed, whether that means baking, cooking, dishwashing, or serving.
